Lunch at Aberdeen Street Social
Since I have been in loved with Aberdeen street social Lobster Benedict, I always wanted to try their A la carte menu. The autumn season is here and restaurants are switching summer refreshing menu to a more heart warming menu. Dishes that I really want to try is their signatures and the Duck Brest! Much looking forward!
Here I am, and reviews of this dining experience.
To start of our lunch we received these cute snacks.
First: The churrors are crips outside and chewy inside, even nicer if you dip it into honey!
Second: Cornmeal muffin stuffed with ham cubes, reminded me of some childhood memories of having cans of shop bought cream soup haha.
Bread, however, is just average as I prefer sourdough than ordinary wheat bread.
Raw Hokkaido Scallops
This is the best dish of the entire meal. The balance of flavours are perfect, the acidity from pickled cucumber and green apple slices, sweetness from the dashi jelly, herby freshness from the shiso flowers and lastly slightly spicy peppery taste of the peparika(or cayenne) lifts the whole dish to another level.
Steak Tartare
My mum loves steak tartare. Although I'm not an expert on it, my mum is and this is definitely a good one. Not to salty and with rich beef flavour. The mustard sauce does not overwhelm the tartare. Need a touch of acidity though, maybe a little more capers and pickle onions.
Main Course
Duck breast & heart, Beeroot, Pear
I finally tasted it. Perhaps the expectation is too high on this dish, I'm rather disappointed. The duck breast is overcooked, very tough, not the pinkish medium rare type that I am looking for. However the duck flavour is strong which I like. The beetroot is okay but too soft for me, loses its earthy taste. The duck hearts is cooked perfectly but lack of seasoning... Overall it is a very disappointing dish, a little regret I ordered it as my main.
Main course
Pan seared Seabass, lobster risotto
Delicious! The Seabass has crispy skin yet the fish itself is cooked to perfection. I LOVE FISH. The risotto is creamy soft texture, not the traditional Italian style but goes really well with the fish.
Blueberry, "Lapsang" smoked tea, milk texture, mascarpone & maple whiskey.
The tapioca pearls lack flavour and the whole dessert just does not come together, no harmony between all those complex elements. Pretty presentation.
